Children’s Book Review: Baby Penguins Everywhere! by Melissa Guion

How do you explain to your child that, as much as you love her, sometimes you just need a little time to yourself? The answer: Read Baby Penguins Everywhere! together. Charmingly written and illustrated by Melissa Guion, this children’s book tells the story of a penguin who is alone. She enjoys the peace and quiet, but sometimes she is lonely. Then she sees a top hat floating in the water. She soon discovers that this is a magic hat because countless baby penguins begin to emerge from it! Before she knows it, the penguin has become a mama, struggling to care for her large brood. She’s not lonely anymore. And they have a lot of fun together! But she is also very tired now… What she needs is just a little time alone. Then she feels refreshed and is ready to play with her busy family again!

I love the message of this book. It clearly explains to children that Mommy loves them dearly and wants to be with them. But that she also needs a little time to herself to recharge her batteries. Children will love the sweet penguin drawings in the book, as well as the simple words. It can be read to very young children, and is at the perfect level for early readers to read themselves. I encourage you to pick up a copy of this lovely book as a gift for the little ones in your life. Learn more about Baby Penguins Everywhere! and the author/illustrator at
