Tips to Prevent Buzzed Driving on Super Bowl Sunday!

Thankfully, I’ve never been pulled over for drunk driving. Nor do I ever take the chance -- there’s just too much at stake! Not only is it a threat to people’s lives, but getting pulled over for Buzzed Driving could cost $10,000 in legal fees, court costs, and increased insurance rates! Unfortunately, more than 10,000 people were killed in 2010 in alcohol-impaired vehicle crashes. That’s something to keep in mind when those Super Bowl parties are in full swing! Watching your favorite team win the Super Bowl is certainly worth celebrating, but I hope you’ll keep in mind the following tips from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Ad Council’s Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving PSA campaign before the celebration begins:
  • Before drinking, designate a sober driver.
  • If you’re impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation so you are sure to get home safely.
  • Use your community’s sober ride program.
  • If you happen to see a drunk driver on the road, don’t hesitate to contact your local law enforcement.
  • Remember, Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving. If you know people who are about to drive or ride with someone who is impaired, take the driver’s keys and help them make other arrangements to get to their destination safely.
  • Help spread this message before the Super Bowl, a traditionally big day for celebrations with good food, good friends, and yes, alcoholic beverages.
