Discover the Life of a Sea Turtle in "A Turtle's Tale: Sammy's Adventures"!

We live in south Florida, so the fragile lives of sea turtles are a big part of our education. When we go to the beach, we often see parts of the beach cordoned off to protect fragile seat turtle nests. And my children and I are frequent visitors to Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, a sea turtle conservation and rehabilitation center. We’ve watched them release baby turtles back into the ocean, and we’ve gone to the ocean at midnight to watch a mama turtle dig out a nest in the sand and lay her eggs. We’ve also seen plenty of turtles at Gumbo Limbo that have been injured by boat propellers or weakened by disease. So, we took a special interest when we heard about the new animated movie, A Turtle’s Tale: Sammy's Adventures.

Featuring the voice talents of Melanie Griffith, Kathy Griffin, Tim Curry, Anthony Anderson, and Stacy Keach, A Turtle’s Tale: Sammy’s Adventures shows Sammy’s amazing fifty-year journey through the life of a sea turtle. Born on the beach in Baja, California, newborn Sammy joins his fellow hatchlings in a dash for the water to avoid getting gobbled up by a crab or seagull. Throughout his life, Sammy gains a best friend, Ray, and seeks out Shelly, his first love. Along the way, he encounters both man-made and natural obstacles, just like a real sea turtle.

A Turtle’s Tale: Sammy’s Adventures not only educates the whole family about the life of a sea turtle, but is also highly entertaining, with plenty of adventure and even a rousing soundtrack with music by artists like The Mamas & The Papas and Michael Jackson. My boys greatly enjoyed this movie. It’s an excellent choice for your next Family Movie Night! You can purchase A Turtle’s Tale: Sammy’s Adventures on DVD or download a copy from iTunes at
