Build Your Family’s Brain Power with the Synonyms Board Game!

I love games that test my intellectual prowess! This seems to run in my family. We adore playing games like Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit to compete for the title of smartest family member. Now there’s another game to add to our family’s brain-building collection: Synonyms!

In case you’ve forgotten what synonyms are from your childhood English class, they’re two words that mean essentially the same thing. For example, synonyms for the word “excellent” may include “awesome,” “superb,” “great,” or “outstanding.” But with this game, you’re not allowed to grab your thesaurus. You have to figure out the synonyms from your own brain’s vocabulary! This is a great game for parties or family gatherings. Up to eight people can play, and it’s especially fun to issue challenges to each other to come up with the most words.

Synonyms is recommended for ages 10 and up, which I feel is accurate. I tried playing it with my 7-year-old twins, and they didn’t have a large enough vocabulary to come up with similar-meaning words. For children in upper elementary school and up, however, this game helps to:

  • Improve word recognition
  • Increase vocabulary
  • Enhance reading skills
  • Improve creative writing ability
  • Build verbal skills for reasoning and decision-making
  • Develop critical thinking skills
  • Promote communication skills
If you love words and need a new challenging game for your next gathering, pick up Synonyms! You can find out more about it at www.synonymsthegame.com.
