Two of Your Kids’ Favorite Shows Begin New Seasons Next Week!

It’s that time of year when many of your favorite shows have their season premieres! It’s no different for kids’ cartoons. They often start new seasons in the fall, too. Here are two terrific ones that start up again on Monday, October 11, 2010:

Everyone’s favorite aardvark starts his 14th season this year! Wow! I remember my oldest sons, now 20 and 17, watching this show when they were younger. We even had a board game called something like Arthur’s Library, as well as plenty of Arthur books on our bookshelves. I’m thrilled that Arthur and his friends are still delighting kids on PBS KIDS GO!

In the premiere episode on October 11, Brain has to spend some time in a wheelchair after he is injured. He’s afraid that he won’t be able to compete in a charity basketball tournament! Fortunately, his new friend Lydia is a wheelchair basketball player and shows him how it’s done. After the story, there’s a live-action segment about 10-year-old Kaitlyn, who shows kids she can do just about everything that other kids do despite being in a wheelchair.

Another special episode of ARTHUR kicks off Halloween week! In this episode, the real-life author of Coraline and The Graveyard Book, Neil Gaiman, gets animated! He urges Sue Ellen to try her hand at writing and illustrating a graphic novel. Kids will enjoy seeing Neil pop up in unexpected places to give inspiration and encouragement to Sue Ellen.

I hope you’ll join Arthur and his pals this season for a lot of fun!

I hadn’t seen PBS KIDS’ MARTHA SPEAKS before, but after watching the following video of the author behind the book and TV series, Susan Meddaugh, I definitely want to check out this show!

MARTHA SPEAKS begins its third season on October 11 with a special two-part episode in which Martha and her friends are given the opportunity to create their own children’s TV show! They come up with all kinds of fun ideas for the show. In the meantime, little viewers learn lots of new vocabulary words, such as “brainstorm,” “genre,” and “drama.” In fact, every show introduces children to new vocabulary words through the fun of a talking dog and his adventures. There’s also a special Halloween episode on Monday, October 25 (and re-airing on Friday, October 29). And check out the MARTHA SPEAKS website at for lots of games, printables, and videos.

I’m really excited about the season premieres of both ARTHUR and MARTHA SPEAKS next week. Cuddle up with your kids and check out these entertaining and educational shows!
