Review: LeapFrog's Math Adventure to the Moon DVD

We’re big fans of LeapFrog products at our house. Both of my six-year-olds have Leapster 2 game players, which they love! (They don’t even realize they’re learning with the educational games on Leapster because they’re so much fun!) We also have a LeapFrog Tag Reader, which the boys are using to help them learn to read. And now we’re the happy owners of a LeapFrog DVD: Math Adventure to the Moon!

I have to admit that I made the mistake at first of telling my boys that we were going to watch a “math” DVD. Immediately, some eye-rolling took place. But once they started watching Math Adventure to the Moon, they couldn’t keep their eyes away from it. In this animated story, two adorable frogs named Tad and Lily are struggling to find ten items of some kind for a school assignment. Nothing seems right until they decide they’re going to collect moon rocks! Fortunately, they live in an animated world because they’re able to travel into space, along with their friend Edison (a firefly), and on their journey in a magical rocket ship, they learn a lot about counting, patterns, sorting, and other math concepts. My kids were solving the challenges along with the characters, and they even played the sorting game in the bonus material. They also enjoyed the songs throughout the movie.

LeapFrog’s Math Adventure to the Moon DVD is an entertaining and effective tool for introducing children in preschool and early elementary school (ages 3-6) about basic math concepts. It’s about 36 minutes, which is the perfect length to keep their attention. Math Adventure to the Moon is available on DVD or as a digital download at Also on the site, you can view clips from the show, as well as see LeapFrog’s other great DVDs. Thanks, LeapFrog, for another great educational product!

  1. All of my kids, including the twins, learned their letters and letter sounds at 2 years old from LeapFrog dvds/video. They are so well-made. The kids don't even realize they are learning.
