Pocket Doodles for Kids: A Great Boredom-Buster During Summer Travel

Back in May, I wrote an article with tips for traveling with your kids this summer. One of my suggestions was to bring along some new books and games to keep the children happy in the car or on the plane. I recently received a review copy of Pocket Doodles for Kids by Bill Zimmerman, and I highly recommend you bring it for the kids on your next vacation!

Pocket Doodles for Kids is a small 4x6-inch book that can easily fit in a backpack or glove compartment, but it’s loaded with 272 pages of drawing and writing activities. For instance, one page has a picture of a billboard and says, “Use this billboard to sell something.” Kids can use their imagination to draw a fun product or write a sales pitch! Another page shows a picture of a yard and says, “An alien has landed in your backyard. What does it look like?” Kids are asked to design a postage stamp on a different page and a cell phone on another! Some pages have doodles for kids to turn into pictures. It’s a very clever book (illustrated by Tom Bloom) in which children can be creative and compare their drawings. I recommend that you get a Pocket Doodles book for each child so they don’t miss out on any of the fun activities.

Bill Zimmerman, a teacher and journalist, has authored more than a dozen books for kids, so he knows what they like! He also has a very cool website at where kids can create their own comic strips. His work has been featured on the Today Show and Fox and Friends, as well as in numerous newspapers and magazines.

Pocket Doodles for Kids are only $9.99 and can be ordered on Amazon or at Barnes and Noble. If you’re planning a trip with your children, you’ll want to pick up Pocket Doodles for Kids!

P.S. Even if you're not planning a trip, this is a valuable book for sparking your child's imagination and creating fun artwork!
