Being a book lover, I’ve always been especially fond of movies based on books. Among others, I love Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the Lord of the Ring series, and any movie based on a Jane Austen book. So, I got really excited when I saw a trailer at the theater for an upcoming movie, also based on a book, called Inkheart. I have to admit that I haven’t read the book yet, but the movie looks great, so I’ll probably end up buying the book, too!
Inkheart stars Brendan Fraser and Helen Mirren, and asks the question: What if you had the power to bring a book to life simply by reading it aloud? That would certainly be an amazing thing, but, of course, it would depend on the book you choose! Apparently, Brendan Fraser's character chose the wrong sort of book because now he and his family are in a heap of trouble and must figure out how to escape from the book. Watch the clip at the bottom of this post for a preview of the movie, which had me on the edge of my seat!
You can also find out more about Inkheart at http://www.inkheartmovie.com. The movie is rated PG, so you can take the kids and enjoy this fantasy adventure together! It premieres at a theater near you on January 23, 2009.
Would you like to win a gift certificate to see the movie (or another of your choice)? To win a $20 Fandango gift certificate, simply leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite Brendan Fraser movie. (You can find out which theaters near you accept Fandango gift certificates by going to http://www.fandango.com.) To earn up to three additional entries (leave separate comments for each):

I’m really looking forward to seeing Inkheart at the movie theater. I think it’s going to be one of the most exciting movies of 2009. Hope to see you there!

Brendan has made some truly wonderful movies.

Wasn't there a Star Trek-Next Generation show with this idea of living a book? Our heroes get trapped on a planet where some powerful aliens had long ago created a digital home for a stranded-in-space American--using as a guide a poorly written paperback detective novel set in the 1920s. (The American is found dead; bored to death.) The show reminded me of the old Twilight Zones.

My fave was Blast From the Past.
ReplyDeleteI have enjoy many of Mr. Fraser's movies but the one that really stands out to me is "Blast From The Past". Though it was not a huge movie it left wonder in your mind, what if that could really happen. Then there is the ooohhh's and aaahhhh's over if it did all those cool things you would have, the vintage items that are long gone now (well, unless you want to pay a fortune on eBay for!).
ReplyDeleteThank you for the chance to win and have a great day Susan Heim on Parenting.

ReplyDeleteI liked Brendan Fraser in "The Mummy". I just saw an ad for Inkheart the other day and it looked like one my hubby and the kids and I would enjoy.
ReplyDeleteChristina - xristya@rock.com - I liked Monkeybone, which came out in the year 2000, but I also like any movie that Brendan Fraser is in - he gives off a sense of both innocence and trust - and I think Inkheart is unique in that, how many father-daughter bonding movies can we recall? I can think of only one other, Paper Moon!
