Spotlight and Giveaway: "Izzy Kline Has Butterflies," by Beth Ain

Izzy Kline Has Butterflies
by Beth Ain

Fourth grade is here, and Izzy Kline is nervous. There are plenty of reasons for the butterflies in her stomach to flap their wings. There’s a new girl in her class who might be a new best friend. The whole grade is going to put on a performance of Free to Be…You and Me, a great show with lots of music and the kinds of big “life lessons” her mom always wants to talk about, especially now that Izzy’s dad has moved out. So many moments, both big and small, make up a year. Beth Ain chronicles them all in this funny and heartwarming novel, which allows each relatable moment to feel special and important.

A beautiful novel written in verse, IZZY KLINE HAS BUTTERFLIES (Random House Books for Young Readers) will inspire young girls to discover their inner voice.

A Message from the Author:

Here's a special message from Beth about her Butterfly Moments campaign. Follow the link for more detailed information along with a cute butterfly printable teachers can use in the classroom.

“I'm so excited to share this book with kids and their parents. Because it is written in small moments, it might just become a way back into your upper-elementary child's bedtime routine. My hope is that children will connect with all the funny and insightful things going on in Izzy's head, and that the book will give parents a way into their kids' interior life and the wide range of emotions kids this age often feel. And it might inspire them to write, too! I really want kids to see how their sweet or not-so-sweet moments can be enough to make something special -- that if they take a step back and become mindful of the small moments, they might find that poetry sometimes just presents itself out of nowhere smack in the middle of math class. I kind of hope parents will try their hand at it, too. Butterfly moments are all around -- catch one!”

  25. I learned that it's written in verse (yes, the review mentioned that, but it didn't really sink in until I saw the excerpt.) I'm honestly not sure if that would be a turn-off for my daughter or not.
