7 Ways a Baby Will Change Your Life ~ Enter to Win an Audiobook Code ~ 25 Winners!

About ten years ago, I was the mother of toddler twins and two teenagers. A wonderful author I had worked with for many years, Bettie Youngs, had raised her daughter to adulthood and was a new grandmother. Her daughter, Jennifer, was experiencing motherhood for the first time. So we were all at different stages of our parenting journey. We got to talking about our experiences, and a common thread wove its way through our discussion: We were really amazed at how much becoming a parent had completely changed our lives. Sure, we expected to be much busier and to sleep a lot less when we had our babies, but we didn’t realize the extent to which having a baby would affect our friendships, our faith, our family relationships, our working lives, and so much more. It was a roller coaster of the most incredible experiences, both positive and challenging, that nobody had properly prepared us for. Yes, we survived, but we couldn’t help thinking that it might have been a little bit easier if we’d had more information about how having a baby would change our lives. Perhaps we could have been more emotionally prepared for all of the changes we would go through if we had known more. And so we wrote a book to help others who were embarking on the path to parenthood -- or even just thinking about it -- to be better informed about the many ways in which becoming a parent would change their lives.

Oh, Baby! 7 Ways a Baby Will Change Your Life the First Year was published in 2006. Several years later, our publisher was bought out by another company that didn’t specialize in parenting books, and eventually our book was taken out of print. Fortunately, my co-author Bettie Youngs and her daughter Jennifer now have their own publishing company, and they have reprinted the book as 7 Ways a Baby Will Change Your Life so a new crop of parents can benefit from its pages. The advice is still as relevant today as it was when we first wrote it. It’s filled with stories, advice, discussion questions and action steps to help new parents navigate their first year of parenthood with their eyes wide open to the many joys and challenges that await them.

I’m also excited because 7 Ways a Baby Will Change Your Life is now available for the first time as an audiobook from Audible. Needless to say, new parents often say they’re just too busy to read, and so an audiobook is the perfect way to read a book while your hands are busy tending to your baby.

If you or someone you know is thinking about having a baby, is expecting a new arrival, or has just had a child, I hope you’ll consider picking up a copy of 7 Ways a Baby Will Change Your Life! As parenting expert Michael Popkin, Ph.D., has noted, this book is “the ‘what to expect’ manual that’s real and honest … and helpful and hopeful.” Pick up a paperback or audiobook copy today!
