Check in again for more love and laughter as new arrival Richard Gere joins an all-star ensemble cast -- including Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy and Dev Patel -- returning for this heartwarming sequel to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel! Now that his first venture has proven successful, ever-confident Sonny (Patel) is busy juggling plans for a second resort ... as well as his own wedding. But his efforts are constantly hampered by hilarious complications, and in order to put it all together, he'll need a little help and encouragement from his resident friends.
You don't have to see the first movie to understand this sequel, but it definitely adds more enjoyment to watching this film if you've seen how the senior residents all ended up at The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. I really loved seeing more of these quirky characters. This movie had plenty of humor -- like taking roll call each morning to make sure that all of the senior residents had survived the night -- and plenty of Bollywood-style fun, particularly with the dancing at Sonny's wedding. There's some seriousness, too, as each resident grapples with the mixed blessings of growing old. There's definitely plenty of life left in these seniors, and they were fascinating to watch. Richard Gere's character was a fun addition as Sonny kept bending over backwards to please him, believing that he was sent in secret by the American company he's hoping will finance his next hotel. Overall, I found this a very satisfying sequel to the original movie and greatly enjoyed my return to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel!
