A Valentine’s Day Giveaway from Shop to Change a Life!

I recently featured the wonderful website Shop to Change a Life, which was founded by author Samira Rao. Shop to Change a Life features Fair Trade Products that are imported from India. Samira donates 6% of the net sales of the Fair Trade Products sold on Shop to Change a Life to Chinmaya Vijaya, a girls’ orphanage in Vijayawada, India, and to The Child Evaluation Clinic (for sexual abuse in children) at the McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint, Michigan. For Valentine’s Day, Samira would like to give a lucky reader one of these beautiful Recycled Sari Bags!

Item description:
Cross-body bag made from recycled patches of saris brilliantly decorated with tassels and bells. Tie closure, external pocket on strap. Assorted patchwork colors and embroidery.

The story behind this product:
Our distinctive Color Splash collection is handcrafted by artisans working in the dry desert state of Rajasthan, India. The beautiful assorted fabrics are collected from recycled saris and scraps from the textile industry, which helps divert waste from landfills. Artisans cut patterns in the patchwork pieces to glue onto cotton, then hand stitch with thick thread lines and sprinkle with embroidery and occasional beads and sequins. The craft of patchwork provides sustainable income for artisans who live in a harsh, desolate region affected by severe drought and little farming opportunity. We partner with a local organization that provides full-time employment for about 20 artisans, and need-based work for about 100 more.

I hope you will visit Shop to Change a Life and make a purchase to help support some very worthy causes. Their beautiful jewelry, handbags and scarves, children’s toys, decorative accessories, and more make treasured gifts and unique collectibles!
