The Identical, starring Ray Liotta, Ashley Judd, Seth Green, and Blake Rayne, is a redemptive movie about a young man, the son of a preacher, who rejects his father’s desire for him to join the ministry and instead embarks on a career as a rock singer. As he struggles to pursue his dream and rise to stardom, he finds love, pain, success, failure and ultimately uncovers a hidden family secret that reveals who he really is. The Identical is a captivating story about a family restored and a life discovered that lifts your soul and warms your heart.

Have you ever heard that Elvis Presley had an identical twin brother who was stillborn? I’m betting the writer of this movie had that thought in mind when creating this story. What if it was discovered that the twin who didn’t survive had instead been adopted by another family and still lived? What would his life have been like? That’s the question that is answered in this movie, although this isn’t a movie about Elvis (but the actor certainly bears a resemblance)! As a mother of twins, I am especially fascinated by the “twin connection,” and this movie shows a clear bond between twins Drexel and Ryan, even though neither knows he is a twin. But this is mostly Ryan’s story. Why does he always feel he’s a little different, even though he loves his parents deeply? Why does he have such a beautiful voice even though his parents don’t? The acting in this movie is superb, with Ray Liotta, Ashley Judd and Blake Rayne as real standouts. I loved watching the fashions and hairstyles change from the 1930s to the 1970s. And don’t be turned off by the overly religious tones depicted in the trailer. This is really more a story about self-discovery and being true to yourself, about family and forgiveness. The film is compelling, with plenty of unexpected surprises, fantastic music, and realistic scenes and dialogue. In brief, I absolutely loved The Identical and highly recommend it!
