23 Blast: Review and DVD Giveaway (US/CAN) #23Blast

About the movie:
As a typical teenager, Travis Freeman is a local hero, both on and off the high-school football field in his small Kentucky town. But in 1997, Travis contracts an infection that destroys his optic nerve and renders him blind overnight. With the loving help and concern of his parents, physical therapist, coach and best friend, Travis demonstrates what true bravery is: He continues to compete on the gridiron and helps his team advance to the state finals.

Watch the trailer:

Rated PG-13 (brief drinking of alcohol on school property)
Running time: 1 hour, 42 minutes

My thoughts:
Based on a true story, 23 Blast is incredibly inspirational and entertaining. My boys (age 11) and I loved it and have been telling everyone we know about it! (My boys recognized the coach, played by Stephen Lang, right away as the Colonel in the blockbuster movie, Avatar.) The whole cast is superb, including Mark Hapka as Travis, Bram Hoover as his best friend Jerry, Kim Zimmer as his mother, and Becky Ann Baker as his mobility coach. (And, of course, Stephen Lang as the football coach.) This is a terrific movie to watch with kids because it shows them that hard work and determination really pay off. It also shows them that people with disabilities can accomplish great things. I hope you’ll pick up a copy of 23 Blast for your next Family Movie Night!
