Tips for Preparing for Back-to-School During the Summer #LSSS

I know it feels like summer has just begun, but the kids will be heading back to school in a short time, so it’s not too early to start planning ahead. If you look now for the items you’ll need, instead of waiting until the last minute, you’re more likely to find a better selection, as well as some really good deals. What should you purchase this summer?

School supplies
Our school hands out a master list of supplies needed for each grade before summer begins, but I usually wait until we meet our children’s teachers in the fall before I buy it all because they often don’t request every item on the list. However, you can still get ahead by stocking up on the basics now, such as notebook paper, folders, pencils and erasers!

Items for your child’s locker
If your child will have a locker this year, either for his school supplies or his athletic gear, you’ll want to be sure that his belongings are secure with a Master Lock combination lock. They have a HUGE selection to choose from! And don’t forget fun items to decorate your child’s locker, especially for the girls, such as mini-posters and a mirror.

Whether your child wears a uniform or regular clothes to school, the costs can add up quickly. If you see a good sale, consider purchasing items in multiple sizes so you’ll have them when your child hits a growth spurt. Pick up several colors for items that are discounted. And don’t forget the basics, like new socks and underwear!

Bicycle helmets and locks
If your child rides her bike to school, make sure the tires and brakes are in good condition. Don’t forget safety gear, like a helmet and a horn. And a bicycle lock from Master Lock is a must-have to ensure that your child’s bike won’t be stolen or taken by mistake.

Lunch box/bag and backpack
I’ve learned from experience that it’s worthwhile to splurge a bit on a well-made backpack that won’t fall apart after a few months. However, after my son lost two lunch boxes at school in the span of a few weeks, I’m buying bargain bags!

Laptop lock
If you’ve got a high school or college student, chances are she’ll be taking a laptop or netbook to class. Be sure to protect it with a Master Lock Storage Security Lock and a sturdy case.

When you’re ready to escape the summer heat by running into a cool, air-conditioned store, start checking out the supplies and items your children will need for school. When you prepare early, you’ll save time and money, and alleviate a lot of stress!
