Live Happy: An Inspirational Magazine That Helps Bring Meaning and Purpose to Life! (Giveaway for a 1-Year Subscription ~ a $29.95 Value)

As I write this article on Independence Day, I’ve been taking time to reflect on what makes America a great place to live. I tutor a lot of students from other countries, and the story that one young lady told me really helps to explain why. She had recently moved to the United States and was out with friends at a restaurant/bar. When she left that night, she realized that she had left her brand-new camera behind. People told her to check the restaurant’s “lost and found” to see if her camera had been turned in. “In my country,” she said, “there is no such thing as ‘lost and found.’ My camera would have been gone forever.” But, despite her doubts, she returned to the restaurant the next day to inquire about her camera. Sure enough, someone had found it and turned it in. “That is what I love about this country,” she told me. “People really care about each other. They could have easily kept my new camera or sold it for cash, but they chose to return it instead.”

That same generosity and love for one another is now reflected in the pages of a magazine called Live Happy. Instead of focusing on the negativity around us (and, yes, there’s plenty of that in America, too), the articles reflect the magazine’s mission “to impact the world by bringing the happiness movement to a personal level and inspiring people to engage in living purpose-driven, healthy, meaningful lives.” A recent issue (June 2014) focused on the theme of compassion and contained articles on self-compassion (silencing your inner critic), the Dalai Lama’s views on compassion, tips for nurturing a happy family, having a stress-free vacation, achieving balance, and more. The cover story featured an interview with Chris O’Donnell, star of NCIS: Los Angeles and father of five. I loved how in-depth the article was, not the typical celebrity fluff piece but a thorough look at how Chris balances work and family life.

Another feature that makes Live Happy unique is its practicality. It offers real-life solutions and suggestions for incorporating activities into your life that will increase your happiness and sense of purpose. One article featured schools that go beyond academics to teach children “grit” and resilience. Another article examined programs that provide positive mentors for at-risk young people. Mood-boosting foods, inspirational quotes, and true stories from the International Day of Happiness were also featured. If you’re looking for ways to bring more joy to your life, improve your community, be a better parent and spouse, then a subscription to Live Happy magazine is a great place to start! 2. I learned that they have an entire section on "SELF." I like this because it is so much different than every other magazine. I always see tips about relationships, how to lose weight, what clothes to buy, etc. But this magazine has subsections that focus on gratitude, resilience, creativity, faith, skills, etc. It sends a great message and helps people become the best they can be. - Nicole Mecham, coleyoley46@gmail.com
