Children’s Book Review and Giveaway: "Tillie & Clementine," by Dan Killeen (3 Winners)

Tillie and Clementine are sisters, and their daddy tells them a bedtime story every night. One evening, he tells them about two princesses (named Tillie and Clementine, of course), who leave the remains of their figgy pudding all over their room when they go to bed. This attracts a hungry dragon! As the dragon climbs the castle wall, they pummel him with toys. Fortunately, the dragon is scared off, and the princesses’ lives are spared! Now it’s time for the real Tillie and Clementine to go to sleep. Their daddy heads outdoors to take the recycling bin to the curb and gets locked out of the house! He tries climbing up the side of the house, and the girls are awakened by his strange noises. Remembering their daddy’s story, they are certain a dragon is coming to eat them, and they toss all their toys out the window! This causes their daddy to fall to the ground, just in time to see Mommy returning from a meeting. Heading inside, they check on their girls, who are fast asleep once again. Oblivious to their recent adventures, Mommy is thrilled to see no toys on the floor … they must have done a great job of cleaning up. (What will she think, though, when she finds all their toys at the side of the house?!)

This charming story is inspired by author and illustrator Dan Killeen’s real nieces, Tillie and Clementine. Not only is the tale lively and enchanting, but the illustrations are adorable. Subtitled Book 1: Noises in the Night, this book is the first in a continuing series about Tillie and Clementine. After reading this story, kids will be clamoring to read about the further adventures of these delightful girls.
