Against the Wild: DVD Review and Giveaway

Tonight is Friday, and that means it’s Family Movie Night at our house! We love to discover new movies that are exciting and appropriate for everyone. We recently watched Against the Wild, a new film that just arrived on DVD and digital download this month.

About Against the Wild:
A gripping adventure for the whole family, Against the Wild begins with siblings Zach and Hannah traveling by seaplane with Chinook, their Alaskan Malamute, to visit their father for the weekend. When their plane encounters engine trouble, the pilot is forced to make an emergency landing in the woods in the middle of nowhere. As they travel on foot to seek help, Zach, Hannah and their loyal companion come face-to-face with the challenges of the wilds -- from wolves and grizzly bears to forest fires. Using all the wilderness skills they know -- and with some help from Chinook -- the siblings must work together to overcome each obstacle and conquer the ultimate goal: returning home again.

Watch the following clip for a sneak peek at Against the Wild:

My kids’ review:
We were excited to see this movie because our grandparents live in Alaska. Our favorite character was the dog because he could take care of people, carry them, find water, and more. The scariest part was when a bear tried to eat the kids. They had to hide under a log to get away from him. It was good they had their dog because he helped them find the place to hide. We liked this movie because the grown-ups didn’t instantly find the kids, so they had to go through a lot of interesting things before they were found.

  11. Many eons ago I lived in Adak, Alaska, my dad was stationed in the Navy there and we lived in a Quonset hut when we first got there this was in 1957 or 58 and we had a great time, dad would go lobster gigging with traps and we rode a tug boat out to Sitka and had picnics and had a great time, but I was a child and who knows what life was reallyl like back then, Don't think the Navy actually uses Adak anymore, and I believe that the base was given to native Alaskans.

  34. I have never been. And while it looks beautiful, I have zero interest in visiting anytime soon. I watched the movie Thirty Days of Night and it has me scared of Alaska. Even though I know the events in the movie are impossible, I am still scared! I am a big baby!

  35. I have always wanted to not only visit Alaska, but live there....I know the climate can be harsh, but I'm from Upstate New York, so I'm pretty used to bad winters (we get more snow than some parts of Alaska on average).....It just looks like the most beautiful place to live and explore !!
