Benjamin Walker is the latest actor to join the ranks of men who have played presidential roles on the big screen. In this feature we will count down other actors who have had to fill the big shoes of portraying the nation’s fearless leaders, including Michael Douglas in The American President, Harrison Ford in Air Force One and Anthony Hopkins as John Quincy Adams in Amistad.
Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov reinvent the time-honored genre and present the terrifying creatures of the night as they were meant to be experienced -- as fierce, visceral, intense and bloodthirsty. ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER brings to the screen the secret life of our nation's favorite president ... as history's greatest hunter of the undead.
Michael Douglas – The American President
President Andrew Shepherd (Douglas) is a widower with a young daughter in the White House. While getting near to the end of his first term as president, he meets the opinionated Sydney Ellen Wade (Annette Benning). Immediately charmed by the environmental lobbyist, the two strike up a relationship which gives his political opponent the chance to take public swipes at Shepherd’s character.
Harrison Ford – Air Force One
President James Marshall (Ford) is taking a private flight home on the renowned Air Force One from Moscow after an anti-terrorism speech. While traveling back to the US – in flight – a group of terrorists led by Ivan Korshunov (Gary Oldman) take over the plane and hold his family hostage. Good thing Marshall is an ex-soldier and knows a thing or two about combat.
Anthony Hopkins – Amistad
In this real-life tale, Hopkins portrays John Quincy Adams during the court trial after the 1839 mutiny aboard a slave ship traveling from Cuba to America. The runaway slaves are held captive after rebelling against their imprisoners and the case ends up in front of the Supreme Court where JQA pleads for their release.
Bill Pullman – Independence Day
President Thomas J. Whitmore (Pullman) is in for a surprise when communications systems around the world are disrupted on July 2 by some large objects on their way to Earth. The large objects are really spacecraft’ and soon they are destroying much of the world forcing Captain Steve Hiller (Will Smith) to fight back.
Benjamin Walker – Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
In Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Walker portrays the beloved 16th president and his fictional alternate life as an underworld fighter. Ever since a deadly vampire killed his family, Abe made it his mission to eliminate the species from the world and as he gets older and more involved in politics, he continues to fight for that cause.
