At first, Amber is a bit put off by all of their Bible talk and big family gatherings. But the more she gets to know them, the more she realizes that this family is the “real deal.” She begins to open up a little about her past and not think about moving on to the next town so quickly. In the meantime, Peter finds himself growing attached to Amber, but fears his feelings because Amber clearly has a mysterious past and is not a Christian. To his delight, Amber eventually accepts Christ into her life -- as well as Peter’s marriage proposal -- but their joy is interrupted when they hear that a private detective has been trying to track down Amber, whom he calls Rachel. Will Amber’s secrets destroy her relationship with Peter or will he help her to heal her past once and for all?
I really enjoyed Crossing Values, along with its themes of faith, family, and healing. As the story evolves, we learn that the Yager family has had their own tragedy to heal from, but they came out stronger through their relationships with God and each other. Amber’s reactions to events in her past feel realistic and natural, as do her gradual acceptance and growth in faith. I’m really looking forward to the sequel coming soon, Ryan’s Crossing.
