GIVEAWAY

My fantastic prize is sponsored by Annette Bosley-Boyce, author of The College Success Plan! If you have a teenage child or grandchild, this book is essential reading! I love how the exercises are divided into daily lessons so students aren’t overwhelmed. This book is a 20-day program: 4 weeks, 5 lessons per week. The week’s themes are as follows:

Week 1: Self-Discovery
This week is fun because it gives students the opportunity to explore their talents and interests. What do they enjoy doing? What are they good at? What do they dream about doing? At the end of the week, students should have an idea of what careers or occupations might be a great fit for them.

Week 2: Career Smarts
This week helps students determine if their chosen career or occupation is in line with their values and desires. It also encourages them to find a mentor in their field to provide “inside information” on their career. Exploring their interests during the summer and writing a resume are also encouraged. I love the list of “action verbs” for resume-writing -- great info for everyone!

Week 3: College Smarts
This week, students get down to the business of selecting colleges. It helps students to consider location, costs, degrees, size, type of college, and much more. It also shares how to get the most out of college visits and helps students determine the application process for each university.

Week 4: Applying with Confidence
This week’s activities encourage students to look at their high school curriculum and record to determine if they’re on the right path to attending the college and pursuing the career they desire. How important is your GPA, your SAT/ACT scores, and your choice of classes? Ideally, this assessment should be done even before high school to determine a four-year track to success, but this is a valuable step to take at any time. Finally, this week gets to the nuts-and-bolts of filling out the college application, such as formulating a college essay and understanding financial aid.

The College Success Plan is a must-read for every teenager, as well as their parents. It will help them to make the most of their high school experience and to optimize their chances of getting into a college or university that will enable them to pursue their dreams and make a living. Visit www.thecollegesuccessplan.com for more information, to embark on this process online, and even enter to win a scholarship!
