Children’s Book Review and Giveaway: Stay Close to Mama, by Toni Buzzeo

Stay close, stay safe. How often do we want to say those words to our little ones who yearn to explore a world full of dangers? In Stay Close to Mama, a little giraffe named Twiga just can’t resist wandering away from his “tall, tall mama.” There’s just so much to explore in the world! He finds a termite mound sheltering a hyena, a whistling thorny tree, stinging ants, a slippery shore, and sweet fruit hanging from a tree guarded by a menacing cat. Fortunately, Twiga finds safety again by the “tall, warm side” of his mama. And yet, he still looks off to the wonders that await him in the distance … “so curious”!

Stay Close to Mama is a beautiful story that will assure children that their mother will be there to protect them as they discover the fascinating world around them. The gorgeous illustrations by Mike Wohnoutka, set in the African savanna, bring little Twiga and his mother to life in their colorful world. Sights and sounds also come alive through the lyrical words. Children will want to hear this story over and over again!
