Celebrate Earth Day with These Children’s Books from Dawn Publications!

In honor of Earth Day, I’d like to introduce you to some of the wonderful children’s books published by Dawn Publications! They’re all designed to inspire kids to learn about gardening, growing healthy foods, and exploring nature. Check out some of these wonderful selections:

Jo MacDonald Had a Garden
By Mary Quattlebaum
Illustrated by Laura J. Bryant

I’m sure you’ve heard of the old song, “Old MacDonald Had a Farm.” Well, I bet you didn’t know that the old farmer has a granddaughter named Jo! Jo is the star of this book, as well as a second book, Jo MacDonald Saw a Pond. In Jo MacDonald Had a Garden, sing along with Jo and her friends as they dig dirt, plant seeds, sprinkle water, pick vegetables, and more! At the end of the book, little readers can find more information on the plants and animals in Jo’s garden, indoor activities, and how to be a gardener like Jo!

Molly's Organic Farm
By Carol L. Malnor and Trina L. Hunner
Illustrated by Trina L. Hunner

Molly is a homeless orange cat that shows up on an organic farm. This curious cat finds out what a compost pile is, why insects are in the garden, what companion plants are, why farmers rotate crops, and much more! Molly’s farm provides food for the local market and brings neighbors together. When winter comes, Molly settles inside her new home until spring when she can explore the farm again! More detailed information on organic farming can be explored at the end of the book. Plus, children can read about the real Molly, an actual cat that inspired this story!

Over in the Forest: Come and Take a Peek
By Marianne Berkes
Illustrated by Jill Dubin

This book introduces children to forest animals! It’s also a counting book, as children learn about one little beaver kit (baby), two little fawns, three little possum joeys, four little box turtle hatchlings, and so on. In rhyming verse, kids learn what each little animal likes to do in the forest! The end of the book includes information from the author and illustrator on forest wildlife and being a wildlife detective! There’s even a song that you can sing with your kids or in the classroom.

These delightful books are just a few of the many available from Dawn Publications. Visit them at to see their other books that help children to explore our fascinating world!
