“My favorite songs have to be the first three (‘I’ll Never Let Go,’ ‘Called Out in the Dark,’ and ‘The Weight of Love’), as well as number 10 (‘In the End’). They have a very chill mood with a lot of electric tones and shallow presence of guitar, with a lot of driving drum rhythms. Some of their stuff sounds like a combination of the Killers, U2, and a few other bands I can’t quite put my finger on. ‘Fallen Empires’ is also really interesting, very driving, but lacks a climax. The last track is a minute-and-a-half long instrumental that might be nice on a cloudy day; it’s very peaceful.”
Now my son, being a young man, tends to favor the “rocking” songs. But I, being an “older person,” like ballads better, and Snow Patrol does plenty of those, too. I especially loved the beautiful love song, “New York.” I also enjoyed the piano music in “The President,” a haunting song about an alcoholic who has hit rock bottom.
