Taber Is Beautiful: A Children’s Book That Builds Self-Esteem (GIVEAWAY)

Today, I’m pleased to present an exclusive interview with Samantha DeGrasse, author of the lovely children’s book, Taber Is Beautiful. Following the interview is a terrific opportunity to win an autographed copy of her book, along with a plush horse and bookmark!

What is Taber Is Beautiful about?
Taber is the story of a horse who struggles with confidence and self-esteem because of a mole on her nose. She is bullied and teased because she doesn’t look like everyone else. It is a wonderful story of a courageous horse that learns a lesson in how to stand up to her friends and accept herself for whom and how she is.

How did you get the idea to write this book?
This book is years in the making. When I first wrote the book, I certainly did not have it in mind for a horse to be the character; it was anything but that. But once the horse became an established character, it somehow worked. Horses are known for their strength, and as a little girl I was anything but that. I struggled with insecurities and features on my body I did not like. As I got older and started writing children’s books, I knew I was not the only one. Self-esteem, confidence, and bullying are topics that children went through twenty years ago, are going through now, and will continue for years to come.

What message are you hoping to send to children with Taber’s story?
I was in New York for a book signing, and I had an adult who pulled me aside and thanked me for writing the book. She too had a mole on her nose and was contemplating drastic measures to get it removed. She never felt normal and always insecure. It was when she read my book that she felt as if a weight were lifted off her shoulders, and she was able to accept how she looked. It is moments like that why I believe in my book and its message, and want my book in everyone’s hands from 8 months to 80 years old.

Do you have plans for any future projects with Taber?
I am in the process of creating a Taber series. In each book, readers are invited to Taber’s world as she experiences different life lessons. The next book is titled Taber Learns Another Lesson. Be on the lookout for this release early next year.

How can we purchase Taber Is Beautiful?
Copies of the book are available on Amazon and BarnesandNoble.com. They are in local bookstores depending on the state, such as Nashville, Atlanta and New York. If you have any questions on book signings and appearances or would like to invite me to your city, please contact me on my web site at www.samanthadegrasse.com and by e-mail at samantha.degrasse@gmail.com.
