The first thing that struck me in taking it out of the packaging was the beautiful quality of the garment. These swimdresses are not inexpensive, but you absolutely get what you pay for. They are so well made that they will last forever. The dress has something similar to bike shorts underneath that fits tightly and really firms up your thighs and behind. (Hurray!) Then, of course, there’s the sexy top that shows just the right amount of cleavage but still gives ample coverage. I am just so thrilled with this suit. It actually makes me want to go out and flaunt my curves instead of hiding behind a towel!
I was curious to know how Shari Riehl, the founder of SugieWogie, came up with the idea for a swimdress, so I asked her to answer a few questions. While you’re reading her interview, check out some of the other elegant swimdresses on this page.
Shari: Well, it is what my father has called me since I was a little girl. I wanted to create a line of clothing and accessories that would reflect everything my parents inspired me to be: creative and confident with a sense of humor and a splash of verve. A collection that could bestow women with each of these qualities. SugieWogie reminds us to not take life so seriously. Even when you say SugieWogie it brings a smile to your face, hence instilling the same values to women who choose to wear SugieWogie.
Q. How did you come up with the idea to create apparel that does double duty as swimwear and a dress?
Shari: I created SugieWogie because I believe that all women should be able to celebrate rather than dread swimsuit season. Hey! We all know the feeling of dread when knowing it’s bathing suit season. Whether you are a new mom or a woman who just doesn’t want to bare it all! Most women grab for a cover-up when going to the pool or beach because the swimsuit options are limited to cutting off at the widest part of our bodies -- our hips (whose idea was that?) and really don’t flatter very many of us. So I chose to create a swimdress collection that has style and control -- control down to the thighs. Remember: SugieWogie Swimdresses control your imperfections, but never tame your spirit. I wanted real women with real bodies to feel confident and even sexy in, yes, a swim garment, and it’s possible with SugieWogie.
Shari: The SugieWogie Signature Collection is for any and every women who wants to feel confident in highlighting what you want to flaunt and provide coverage and control for what you want to hide. SugieWogie is an elegant, versatile collection that goes from the pool to dinner and the dance floor. The collection is for any woman who wants to feel her best while staying stylish in a swim garment without exposing her flaws (or perceived flaws).
Q. Are you staying with the “little black dress” (which you do so well) or will you be offering products in other colors?
Shari: The SugieWogie Little Black Swimdresses are every woman’s best friend! What woman doesn’t love an “LBD”? As Audrey Hepburn illustrated so elegantly so many times, it is the absolute staple in every woman’s closet! However, stay tuned for more exciting things to come!
Shari: The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. This is a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt that is on a bracelet my parents gave to me when I started my SugieWogie journey. I wear it every day to remind me that all dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them (a quote from Walt Disney). We will know this to be true when women begin to look forward to swimsuit season because they have SugieWogie to make them look great and feel confident!
A big thank-you to Shari Riehl for taking the time to answer my questions about SugieWogie Swimdresses, as well as for making a product that finally makes women feel good about going to the beach or pool! Don’t wait to start thinking about what you’ll wear on the beach next summer or on your next tropical vacation. Head over to SugieWogie today and order a gorgeous sundress. You deserve it!
