I had the opportunity to review the book, Coach Me Golf! The Most Fun Ways to Learn Golf for Kids Ages 3-13, by William Zinkus, a two-time state high school champion golf coach. This book is a real gem! It’s just loaded with information about golf terminology, keeping score, golf gear, gripping and swinging the club, putting, rules of the game and so much more. The pages are colorful and brightly illustrated, and my boys just loved reading it. They especially like the Fun Facts spread throughout the book. (For example, I bet you didn’t know that on the Pacific island of Tonga, a local rule states that there is no penalty if a monkey steals your golf ball!) In fact, my sons were so excited about this book that one of them chose it for a school book report.
I put Coach Me Golf! to the test in another way by showing it to their golf instructor, a professional golfer. He was extremely impressed with it. He said it was loaded with a lot of valuable and accurate information. His only criticism was that it might be a little too advanced for a preschooler, as the subtitle notes. Other than that, he found this book to be a very valuable resource for kids who want to learn how to golf.
