If you’ve got kids in elementary school, chances are great that you’re familiar with the books by Dav Pilkey! His Captain Underpants series is a huge hit among grade-schoolers, who love the “potty humor” and silliness in these books. In 2002, Pilkey published the very popular spin-off book, The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby. And now kids will be thrilled to know that Super Diaper Baby 2: The Invasion of the Potty Snatchers has finally arrived! Here’s a quick sneak peek at the book:

About Super Diaper Baby 2: George and Harold (the co-stars of the enormously popular Captain Underpants series) are in big trouble again! Their mean principal, Mr. Krupp, has had it with their comic books. But the boys aren’t giving up, and they decide to create an all-new epic novel about a subject they’ve never tackled before! Dr. Dilbert Dinkle started his career as an ordinary, everyday evil genius/inventor/bank robber. But when he awakens one day transformed into a walking, talking puddle of pee, he vows to destroy every toilet in town. Will the devious Dr. Dinkle and his conniving cat, Petey, ruin restrooms for the rest of us? Or could this be a job for the death-defying, dynamic duo of Super Diaper Baby and Diaper Dog?

My 7-year-old sons’ bookcase is practically filled with books by Dav Pilkey. They absolutely love them! The humor is perfect for their age, especially for boys. And, most importantly, it inspires them to read and pick up books. When they found out that Super Diaper Baby 2 was coming out, they couldn’t contain their excitement! They love the Flip-O-Rama pages, the gross villains, the adventure and silliness…

My boys were also excited to hear that my blog was the third stop on this exclusive tour because they got to ask Dav Pilkey a couple of questions. Here they are:

Are films planned for any of your books?

I’ve had some attractive offers in the past, but the timing has never been right.

What book or character ideas do you have for the future?

Captain Underpants will be back. My next two books will be about him.

How many Super Diaper Baby books will there be?

I only have three planned, but I’m sure I’ll think of more some day.

What age group is this book for?

The reading level is “officially” ages 7 to 10, but I’d like to think the interest level would be more like ages 4 to 140.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?

Just write. Get it out on paper and don’t worry about being perfect or profound. That stuff can come later when you edit.

How long does it take to do each page?

About four to five hours of work goes into each page, although most of that work is never seen (I spend months on the writing, sketches, and various drafts, which only a handful of people see).
