1. The Gift of Relaxation: A trip to the spa for a treatment or massage. Being pregnant is hard enough, let alone chasing after a little one or two as well. This is a gift that will be well appreciated and much deserved!
2. Cord Blood Registry: Cord blood banking is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to save baby’s cord blood stem cells for potential medical uses. When you open a Gift Registry, CBR will automatically contribute $250 toward banking. Then friends, family, and co-workers can contribute to the cost.
3. A Sparkling Home: Maid service for the day is a non-glamorous but much appreciated gift for a mom and mom-to-be! Give her a break from cleaning with a gift certificate to a service.
4. BabyMoon: Chip in for a weekend getaway at a bed and breakfast close by for the parents-to-be. Coordinate with Grandma to watch the older child/children or offer a night of babysitting.
5. Dinner: Food delivery service for a month after the baby is born or gift certificates to nearby restaurants with delivery menus. As a new mom with a little one, the last thing you want to think about is preparing dinner for everyone.
6. Babysitting: Offer to take the older child for the afternoon or to a movie or for a sleepover. This is one of the greatest gifts you can give a new mom. It will help her catch up on rest and enable her to bond with her newborn.
7. Go Practical: Forget unique and adorable the second or third time around, and put together a basket of wipes, diapers, and lotions that never go out of style!
These terrific tips come from Jessica Denay, founder of The Hot Mom Club, and author of The Hot Mom’s Handbook: Laugh and Feel Great from Playdate to Date Night, the ultimate resource for moms who refuse to set aside their sense of style and self -- from bump to baby and beyond! The book even includes practical advice from celebrity moms.

I would suggest, as a unique gift, a personalized pacifier (http://www.mypacifier.com). Or, if you want to be more direct, bundles of baby diapers which they can use immediately (after the baby is born).

Always stick to the registry (unless the parent's specify otherwise). What you think is cute, neat, sweet or special may not be what the parent thinks is! I can't tell you how disheartening it is to receive 30 gifts at my son's baby shower and not received a SINGLE thing from my registry. People buy clothes (which is nice) but no consideration of how big he would be or the seasons (He was born in August and I even got a size NB pink onsie for my son - and they new it was a boy!). Pregnant mom's/mom's with a baby don't want to spend hours exchanging things to 20 different stores or stuck with something they'll never use because no receipt was included...Help a momma out and stick to the registry - it's what she wants/needs!

A gift certificate for a nanny or babysitter for a few days is wonderful
ReplyDeleteWe have given a "date night" with the date package for new mom friends before. With a gfc to a thai take out place, and gfc for netflix subscription and the offer to let the baby come to our house and we will watch it or if the parents want to stay home with the baby, this lets them do that too.
