Enter a Needy School in Bing’s “Our School Needs” Contest!

It seems like the school supply lists get longer and longer every year at my kids’ school. When I was a child, I don’t ever remember my parents having to buy our school supplies! Now it’s often up to the parents to make sure their children have pencils, erasers, rulers and even paper towels for the classroom. Our school also does a lot of fundraisers. We already had one in September, and we have a book fair coming up at the end of this month, as well as a fall festival. Needless to say, school budgets are low, and the need for money is great.

Fortunately, some companies are trying to do what they can to raise money for education. One such company is Bing, which just instituted their “Our School Needs” program. Through this contest, they will potentially give away a quarter-million dollars to elementary, middle and high schools in need. But it’s up to you to show them which schools need the money most.

From now until October 22, 2010, CLICK HERE to learn more about the “Our School Needs” program, and upload your photos, essays and videos telling Bing why your school needs to win up to $100,000. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a student or a teacher. If you know a school in need, you can enter the contest. Here are more details:

What to Do

Students can work in groups, classes, or even school-wide to write an essay and take pictures finishing the sentence “Our School Needs: ___________.” To enter:

1. Write an essay (500 to 800 words)
2. Take pictures (3 to 5 photos)
3. Film a video (not required, but fun! Maximum of 3 minutes in length)

Who Can Enter

Any student or teacher from a K-12 school can enter. While students under 18 are encouraged to create the entry, a parent, legal guardian or a teacher must submit it.

What Could Your School Win?

Bing will award a quarter-million dollars, divided among four schools -- $50,000 to three first-prize winners, and one $100,000 grand prize.

You can also CLICK HERE to access a video that tells you how to create an A-plus submission! I really hope you’ll submit a worthy school for this wonderful opportunity to support education for our children.

DISCLOSURE: I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Bing and received a DonorsChoose.org giving code and gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.
