Boys Can Create Their Own Comics! (Giveaway)

Most boys like comic books. My college-aged son still loves to read the comics in the newspaper every day! My high-schooler likes graphic novels. Comics are a great way to get reluctant readers to read. Now there’s an excellent book out for boys, ages 9-13, that enables them to create comics of their own!

Your Life in Comics: 100 Things for Guys to Write and Draw is the brainchild of Bill Zimmerman and illustrated by Tyler Page. This do-it-yourself comic book goes hand-in-hand with the website, MakeBeliefsComix.com. (More about that in a second.) Check out these sample pages from the book. Some of them encourage the creation of a single-panel cartoon; others show how to make a multi-panel cartoon. Some pages are funny and goofy; others are more serious.

The comics cover topics like family, school, sports, friends, and other things that boys are interested in. Parents will love Your Life in Comics because it encourages boys to think about their lives, get things down on paper, and be creative. Boys will love this book because it’s a lot of fun!

On the website, MakeBeliefsComix.com, kids discover a really cool program that enables them to create their own comics using different characters, colors, dialogue, and more. They can enter their creations in contests, and they just might show up on the MakeBeliefsComix Facebook Page or even win a free book by Bill Zimmerman! It’s a fun interactive site that really appeals to boys. They can even post their creations on their own Facebook pages. If you’re a teacher or homeschooler, you’ll love the free printables and ideas on the site. And did I mention that the site is available in six languages?

If you’ve got a son or grandson who loves comics or graphic novels, I encourage you to visit MakeBeliefsComix.com and pick up a copy of Your Life in Comics: 100 Things for Guys to Write and Draw!

  1. I think it is really cool that you can select the characters and their emotions, as well as write your own text and then send them by e-mail or print them. I think my son, who has just read the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series would really enjoy this site.

  5. I like how easy it is to make a comic page, especially with the different cartoon characters. I had to pull myself away before I spent too much time playing on it! My sons would love this!
