Be Prepared for Severe Weather with the American Red Cross FR160 Microlink Emergency Radio by Eton (Giveaway)

Most of us love summer, but there’s one thing we don’t like -- severe weather. In Florida where I live, that means hurricanes. For you, it might mean the chance of harsh thunderstorms and tornadoes. Unfortunately, no place is safe from natural disasters. When several hurricanes hit us here in South Florida, many people were without power for weeks. As temperatures rose, and generators sold out, people really suffered. Now, most of us who live here are much more prepared. We all have emergency supplies on hand. Even if you’re not in a hurricane area like I am, you need to have access to three things in case you’re left without power for an extended period: light, information, and energy.

One item that provides all that is an Emergency Preparedness Radio. I was recently sent the American Red Cross FR160 Microlink Emergency Radio by Eton to try, and it has some very ingenious features! For instance, it is self-powered. When you turn the crank on it for about 90 seconds, it will give you about 30-40 minutes of low volume play. It also has a solar power adapter, so you can charge it by setting it out in the sun. You can even charge your cell phone with it. And, of course, there’s an AM/FM radio, so you get important news, as well as entertainment. Plus, there’s an NOAA weatherband, which includes all 7 channels for local alerts and updates. There’s an LED light on the unit, so you have a built-in flashlight, and an earphone jack. And I love how small and compact it is for easy storage and portability. Finally, it comes in red and white -- I adore the little red radio I received because it will be so easy to locate!

Here’s a really nice video that shows the features of the American Red Cross FR160 Microlink Emergency Preparedness Radio:

[Email subscribers will need to view this video directly on the blog site.]

When you purchase an FR160 Microlink Emergency Radio by Eton, they will donate up to $1.00 of the sales price to support the American Red Cross. Click HERE to purchase this product on Eton’s site or find out which retailer near you carries this valuable product. (They have it at Target!)

For peace of mind during the storm season this summer, the American Red Cross FR160 Microlink Emergency Radio is an extremely valuable product to have on hand.

  1. I like the feature that allows you to charge your cell phone. I live on the gulf coast and a couple of years ago we lost our electricity for 14 long, hot days because of Hurricane Ike. This would have come in really handy for charging our cell phones!

  160. I really like the feature of there’s an NOAA weatherband, which includes all 7 channels for local alerts and updates. I live in tornado country and we have already had several in our area. It would be nice to have this radio so that we know when to take cover.

  175. I think the solar power is the best feature - if you are in an emergency situation for than a day (hurricane, bad tornado damage or ice storm that causes a week long power outage) batteries are going to run down and there may not be any fresh ones available, but you still need to know what is going.

    ReplyDelete
  176. No need for batteries really impresses me. And solar powered too? Even better!

  183. I like that it is self-powered. No need to look for working batteries, especially during an emergency.

  184. we live in an area with lots of trees, so fallen electrical lines are not uncommon. Being self and solar powered are great benefits

  194. This is one of the most amazing products I've ever seen! I love everything about it but my absolute favorite thing would have to be that it's solar powered, although the flashlight, weather monitor, and the cell phone charger aren't far behind. :)
