Watch this short video of his story. It’s hard to believe that the adorable boy in this video had this kind of childhood.
(Email subscribers may need to click on the title of this post to access the video on my blog.)
As the video shows, however, a miracle took place in 1993, when Derek resolved to change his life. In the middle of a drug deal, he walked away and told those he was dealing with, “You’ll never see me again.” With the support of a 12-step program, he found God, and left drugs and alcohol behind. Within a year he was a partner in a successful company. Work became his passion, and he continued to grow as an entrepreneur — eventually owning several successful companies. By the age of 35, he was a multimillionaire, married, and started a family.
This fascinating story is told in the new book, Addict at 10: How I Overcame Addiction, Poverty, and Homelessness to Become a Millionaire by 35. You can learn more about Derek Steele’s life and his incredible book at http://dereksteele.com/.

Of course, I forgot to add the crucial component.
ReplyDeleteThe interesting thing for me is that Mr. Steele started his road to recovery at the age of 20 when most addicts are just getting "warmed up".
I learned many things on his site, but I wanted to point out that Covenant House seems to have played a vital role in Derek's recovery. Praise God!
