Every night, my six-year-old twins have a ritual where they squirt “monster spray” around their room to keep away scary things. This really works well in calming their fear that something is lurking in the dark. This fabulous monster spray comes from a company called the Bye Bye Shop, which specializes in organic products to help kids.
Bye Bye Monster Organic Monster Repellent is made with all-natural aromatherapy ingredients like lavender, chamomile and sweet orange. Besides scaring away monsters, it has the added benefit of helping kids to relax. It smells wonderful, and when my kids smell their monster spray, they know that it is “working”! It’s a simple, but ingenious way to give children the power to control their fears. If your kids suffer from nighttime fears, they are not alone. Seventy-three percent of children ages 4-12 experience a fear of monsters or other things that keep them up at night.
In addition to the monster repellent, the Bye Bye Shop offers a fabulous children’s book called Bye Bye Monster: Joey’s Adventure on Monster Street, by Kelly Lucente. (Adorable illustrations were provided by Disney illustrator, Tim Brazier.) The story introduces a little boy named Joey who is afraid to go to bed at night because he fears that monsters lurk in his room. His mother introduces him to monster spray, so Joey thinks good thoughts and sprays the monster repellent in his closet. When he sprays it in his dresser drawer, a monster appears! But this monster is cute and cuddly, and tells Joey that his name is Barley. He informs Joey that not all monsters are scary, and he takes Joey on an imaginary journey to Monster Street. There, Joey learns that monsters come in all shapes and sizes, and that very few of them are mean. (He bravely handles one mean monster with a squirt of his monster spray!) Joey enjoys great adventures on Monster Street before returning, safe and sound, to his bed and sleep.
Barley is also available in the Bye Bye Shop as a stuffed animal that kids can sleep with and befriend, calming their fears about monsters. I love the Bye Bye Monster products. We received both the book and the monster repellent, and they have been very effective in getting my kids not to fear monsters.
The Bye Bye Shop also has other terrific organic sprays for kids. The Bye Bye Germs Organic Anti-Viral Spray, with eucalyptus, lavender, lemon and tea tree oil, is a much better alternative to standard hand sanitizers, which contain a high percentage of toxic alcohol. My kids love to use Bye Bye Germs, and I feel good about them having this product when hand-washing isn’t convenient. I’d also like to try the Bye Bye Bugs Organic Insect Repellent, with red thyme, lemon grass, lavender and peppermint. It helps to keep the bugs away from your precious kids without the use of harmful chemicals.
